Choosing a Backpack You'll Use Daily

Fit, materials and the pockets that actually matter.

A daily backpack has three jobs: carry your stuff, not hurt your back, and not look strange at work. Here's how to pick one that clears all three.

Match the volume to your day

18–22L for a laptop and lunch. 25–30L for a gym change too. Anything larger is a travel bag, not a daily bag.

Padded, ventilated back panel

This is the single most under-rated feature. It's the difference between a sweaty back at 3pm and not thinking about the bag at all.

A real laptop compartment

Suspended (doesn't touch the bottom), padded on all sides, and separate from the main body. Not just a sleeve.

Two exterior pockets, minimum

One for a water bottle, one for the small things you grab without opening the main compartment.

YKK zips and a warranty

Zippers are the first thing to fail. YKK is the industry standard for a reason. A warranty over a year signals the maker knows it.

You'll wear this bag more days than any pair of shoes. Choose accordingly.
