How to Buy a Chair You Won't Regret
Ergonomics, materials and warranty red flags.
The chair is where budget-vs-regret hits hardest. Here's how to shop without falling for spec-sheet theatre.
Ignore the marketing photos
The 'gaming chair' silhouette is inspired by racing seats, which are designed for someone strapped in, not typing. A proper office chair has an unglamorous, upright profile.
Four adjustments that matter
Seat height, seat depth, lumbar height, and armrest height. If a chair doesn't do all four, keep looking.
Mesh vs. foam
Mesh breathes better in hot rooms. High-density foam is more supportive over long sessions. Try both if you can.
Check the warranty
Real office chairs come with a 5–12 year warranty on the frame. If a chair has a one-year warranty, that's the manufacturer telling you what to expect.
Test at your actual desk height
A chair that felt great at the store can be wrong at your desk. Return windows exist for a reason — use them.
You'll spend more hours in this than in your bed some weeks. Price it accordingly.
